Another lively day at Millbrook Garden Centre, despite Sunday being a much colder day than Saturday. The bird count was just as good and many people braved the cold, leaving the warmth of the shop & cafeteria to visit us at the wildlife area. Greenfinches, chaffinches, robins, blackbirds, dunnocks, tits, and of course, doves & pigeons, all enjoyed their own ‘cafeteria’, kindly provided by Graham & Millbrooks. The tables & feeders offered a great variety of food, which included sunflower seeds, peanuts, fat balls and niger seed.
A number of families came along to see the birds, some with cameras. We hope they will send us their photographs to show on the website. It was nice to have a chance to talk to people about caring for wildlife during the winter months because we learned a lot too. One lady told me how she cooks sausages, cheap ones (or should that be cheep?), for the birds. I did wonder what her husband had for dinner….
Our helpers Andy and Janet very kindly brought along a laptop to show people bird pictures and short videos. The children particularly enjoyed these. And Roger, our expert naturalist, once again provided guidance.
In February we will be at Millbrooks again helping to promote the RSPB and wildlife once more. This will be during the school half term break and will include children’s activities. Look out for details and do join us.
