I must be a must be a mug; a very cold mug but!!! with the Temp at -5c and a River trip to boot I was in for a bitterly cold experience.
I had been invited to go and count seals in the River Stour from Sandwich to the sea by Jon Bramley, who is the recorder for Kent Mammal Group.
What a great morning I had – the bird list was great!!!    So here we go “all aboard!”
Mallard, teal, moorhen, herring-gull, blackbird, magpie, common sandpiper, green sandpiper, dunlins – 100s of them, 20 or so little grebe, carrion crow, ringed plover, lapwing, cormorant, shelduck, reed bunting, curlew, grey heron, wigeon, black-headed gull, Sandling, black-backed gull, oystercatcher, avocet, little egret, robin, peregrine, grey plover,  sparrowhawk, parakeet, and jackdaw.
Not to forget the purpose of the exercise, 22 common seal.
All in all , although it was very cold we had a great mornings birding.

p.s. Also on the way down a buzzard flying over the A2 just before Faversham.
