We decided to have a trip to Dungeness today – Louise was in Worcester for the weekend, and had seen James the previous day.
It was bright and sunny, although not that warm. Drove down to the lighthouse, and almost immediately after getting out of the car saw a black redstart in the lighthouse gardens. Then spotted a chiffchaff in the same garden, and managed to get some photos of both birds:
We then walked over towards the moat, and found the most obliging firecrest in the gorse bushes just before the moat. According to the assistant warden who we spoke to, there had been 9 there the previous day, and 7 that day, although we only saw the one. Walking round the moat, we saw a pair of black redstart.
Drove down to the reserve and had a walk round. It was fairly quiet there, but heard several cettis and managed to see a drake garganey which was on Denge Marsh. Also had good views of several marsh harriers.
Had a great day.

What a great day out. Brilliant photos too!
Ian & Sue – your Firecrest photos are great – and an inspiration for me to go and ‘find my own’!
