When Julie telephoned to tell me about her trip to Elmley NNR today she told me that she had watched a redshank catching and eating a marsh frog. I declined to believe her! So she sent me this photograph taken by Chris – taken from the car on the entrance track to the reserve. Just amazing! The lapwing were displaying, the Sun was shining – what more can you want?

I wonder if birds are gradually adapting their diets as new and alien species are being introduced? Or maybe that they eat more variety than we are aware of.
What surprised us was that it could actually swallow it down through that very narrow bill!
