So far only one person has had a go at guessing the identity of the mystery bird bathing at the Wetlands Centre (photo by Chris) – see comments for the last trip report post. Alan thought it might be a juvenile herring gull – well it might be, but he also said that he could see the short-eared owl in the picture taken by Sally. I am quite sure that Sally had no idea where the owl was when she was taking the picture with her little camera. I can’t see it anyway – even on the higher resolution version that our website will not let us use! So just to prove that there really was an owl here is a photograph taken by Chris – the bird was very difficult to see when it was on the ground (but it was a really great sight to see it earlier, flying over London!)
Thanks to Steve and Hazel for the nice comments.

My expert advisor tells me the bird is a juvenile herring gull.
