Last week a few of us went birdwatching on Sheppey. As it was “fairly” mild we decided to stay until dusk to watch marsh harriers come in to roost. The huge increase in the population is now a well-known conservation success story. We were treated to a magnificent sunset and at one point 15 birds were flying above the roost site (they roost on the ground amongst tall reeds).
Terry managed to get a photograph as one of the last harriers that came into roost flew over us. What a great end to the day!
