Group Trip to Dungeness

Thankfully the rain promised for the South east stayed clear of Dungeness till we were leaving. The day was cool but bright when we set off from the lighthouse hoping to see a variety of gulls frantically feeding on the ‘patch’. But it wasn’t there! The upsurge of warm water from the power station had […]

Rain in Rainham!

Autumn has arrived and a merry band of seven well prepared group members met at Rainham Marshes on a very wet Sunday morning.  It seemed as if the house sparrows were feeling in a similar mood – as we gathered in the shelter of the visitor centre, they were gathering under the bird house feeder […]

Grove Ferry

Ten members met at the Grove Ferry car park.    The temperature was in the low teens and the sky was cloudy but with some blue showing.    It was agreed that we would walk to Stodmarsh car park for lunch following the central path taking in the view point and hides along the way. […]

Pied wagtails were busy foraging among the rocks. A wasp spider was seen […]

At the end of the talk she said that she would be happy to arrange for our group to visit Dungeness RSPB reserve to find out more about bumblebees and the conservation work being carried out to reverse […]

Group Trip to Sevenoaks KWT Reserve

On Tuesday we visited the Kent Wildlife Trust reserve at Sevenoaks. We were greeted by an assistant warden who suggested that we visited the Tyler Hide overlooking the East Lake. A common sandpiper and 2 little ringed plovers had been reported from there. We set ourselves up in the hide and carefully scanned the East […]

Litter Picking at Cliffe Pools

The Group’s first Volunteer day of the year took place at Cliffe Pools where our main activity was litter picking.   Our enthusiastic team met Will and Ruth from RSPB Northward Hill, and we discussed our plan of action – although it was noticeable that there was far less litter around in the areas we covered […]
